Today is the perfect time to go outside and marvel at nature and the beauty that surrounds us. It's Earth Day!
Earth Day may be a relatively new holiday, but it has a lot of influence. The first Earth Day was celebrated in the U.S. in 1970; later that year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was founded as a direct consequence. Today, Earth Day is a global initiative, bringing together millions of people worldwide.
So as you step outside into the sunshine and fresh air why not take a moment to appreciate the planet we live on and consider giving a little something back?
Start your own Earth Day tradition. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture. Every act, no matter how small, helps keep the earth green and preserve it for future generations.
Here are some tips to "Go Green!":
- Plant a tree
- Pick up litter
- Start a compost heap (click here for directions)
- Plant a garden (to find a community garden in your area click here)
- Learn about sustainability and raise awareness for environmental issues
- Donate your time or money to an environmental charity
